Drug Driving – Will this week’s news wake us all up to the importance of driver wellbeing?

  • Fact – Driving is the most dangerous thing you can do at work.
  • 46% of all workplace deaths and serious injuries are motor vehicle related.

This week came the disturbing news that more and more drivers are being tested positive for drugs. *There has been a staggering 400% rise in drug driving since March 2020, compared with 250% for drink driving in the same period.

However, it’s not just illegal drugs which can impair our judgement and affect our driving. Commonly prescribed drugs like amphetamine, clonazepam and diazepam can be lethal for drivers and everyone on the road.

The bigger story: Drug driving includes those taking prescription drugs.

…and even over-the-counter drugs like antihistamines which can cause drowsiness.

At Fleet Service GB we have always had an eye on driver safety and wellbeing. It’s incredibly important to know of any health issues suffered by your whole team and especially your drivers.
