FSGB Driver Management – Interactive processes
There are three continuous processes that intelligently integrate. They are:
- Continuous performance measurement
- Continuous data analysis
- Continuous driver support/learning
Once an individual driver is approved and given an Authority to Drive then all aspects of the programme becomes continuous. The Live Driver Score is key to any development/support response automatically triggered by the system. At all times clients can view data and information by using bespoke dashboards.
As each Live Driver Score is produced, then the system identifies the in-vehicle training level prioritisation. This will ensure that all drivers are given appropriate in-vehicle training – driver support/learning, to continually improve their driving capability and skills
Live Driver Score and In-Vehicle Training
There is an option with regard to the in-vehicle training requirements, limiting prioritisation of drivers to:
- An annual budget
- Maximum number of in-vehicle sessions (annual)
- No limits – i.e. in-vehicle sessions automatically booked as the system identifies support level required.
Driver Wellbeing
Driver Wellbeing is considered a very important aspect of the overall programme. The programme offers the option to include a 2-hour classroom-based Wellbeing Workshop (20 drivers max). This will provide drivers with the opportunity to better understand the programme, ask questions and learn about how their wellbeing directly affects their ability to drive safely and effectively. The highly interactive workshop will cover information and tips around Hydration, Nutrition, the management of Stress and Fatigue. Simple but effective interventions will be introduced that will also benefit drivers ‘whole life’ and not just at work.
Online Training Webinar
There is no substitute for actual in-vehicle training, however where this is not being rolled out to all drivers at the start of the programme there is an option for a 1 ½ hour online Basic Driver Training webinar to be taken (12 max). The webinar, delivered via Zoom or similar, is split into 6 modules covering the Mental skills, Vehicle checks, Urban driving, Multi lane roads, Driver wellbeing and Rural roads. A Company specific module can be created and added if required. This webinar can be delivered before/after work so as not to interfere with a driver’s normal daily tasks.
Registered Driver Application process
A three-stage driver communication programme (referred to as the 3-2-1 programme) will be used.
- the initial communication 3 is sent by the client to its drivers advising them that the programme is about to become active and setting out the operational requirements covering items such as the driver handbook, company policy and compliance and of equal importance, access to a library of guidance documents.
- Communication number 2 which is sent by Fleet Service GB to the driver introduces drivers to the programme, introduces the Driver App and offers access to further information to support how the service is to be delivered.
- Communication 1 is sent by Fleet Service GB, welcoming drivers to the programme and importantly making sure that the driver has downloaded the Achieve Driver App
- Communications 3 and 2 are designed to ensure that the driver has a full understanding of the services being delivered.
- Downloading and use of the Achieve Driver App is a mandatory requirement and provides a comprehensive communication capability between all stakeholders, including the ability to complete the registration process. Full assistance regarding downloading and registration will be provided to drivers by the service support team
- Drivers will be able to complete an application either by using the Achieve Driver App or the Driver Hub.
- As a part of the Continuous Learning (training) aspect of the programme, drivers can select from a prepared menu, a specific eLearning Programme. Selected eLearners are then presented automatically by the programme, to the driver, on an agreed time basis. Drivers can positively influence their own Live Driver Score by participating fully with each eLearner.
- All individual Driver Applications will be analysed by the system. An individual Live Driver Score will be produced, in addition to a risk assessment on individual driving capability. All of this information will be communicated to the driver (using the Achieve Driver App).
Driver Handbook and related policies
As part of the 3-2-1 communication programme, all drivers will be informed that part of the application process will be a mandatory requirement to access and read the online company handbook and policies presented on the system.
It is important from a legal and health and safety standpoint that drivers not only fully understand the contents of the documents but acknowledge that they have read the documents and understood the content.
- The contents of the online handbook are automatically updated as and when changes in legislation that impact on driving at work occur.
- Within the online handbook there will be embedded references to relevant Elearners that are automatically presented to drivers using the on an agreed timescale using the Achieve Driver App – in addition links will be provided to appropriate supporting videos.
- The driver handbook and company supporting policy documents will demonstrate to the driver the company’s commitment to the implementation and development of a genuine learning culture.
The contents of the online handbook and policy documents has been produced in partnership with Fleet Industry Advisory Group using the best legal and health and safety advice. The contents of the documents are reviewed on a regular basis to ensure that the material accurately reflects any changes in either health and safety or legal requirements.
In the event that a client would like their own handbook to be used, then it will be a requirement that the document is audited and approved by FIAG prior to its use within the programme.
Individual risk assessment determining support/learning modules
The interaction of all aspects of the driver support/learning is initially influenced by the front-end assessment (risk assessment) of a driver, either in-vehicle or from the responses given to the various questions. This will determine the individual driver experience/capability level. Once that has been established driver support/learning will be influenced by performance measurements that in turn influence the live driver score or it may be a special support/learning requirement following a crash, incident, or event.
The purpose of the Continuous support/learning programme is to emphasise the importance of a Continuous Learning Culture which by being continuously applied will dramatically influence compliance, wellbeing, safety, and operational efficiency.
Client support programme and initiative
All clients will be invited to attend regular workshops and events covering all aspects of the FSGB Driver Management programme. These workshops allow an opportunity to interact and exchange ideas for the better development of the continuous learning programme.
- By using examples of individual driver performance and achievement, overall levels of skill and behaviour will significantly improve.
- By the building and supporting of a driver learning culture, using all the ingredients of the FSGB Driver Management programme, then companies can be confident that individual driver skills will be enhanced, crash incidents will reduce significantly, unnecessary maintenance expenditure will lower but importantly drivers feel valued and supported as a direct result of being involved in the integrated wellbeing programme – all of which will impact positively on staff retention.
