How do I overcome kickback from my team when implementing our driver management system?

Question

Although the board have signed off on implementing the FSGB driver management system, as the person responsible I’m having kick back from some areas of the business.  How can I overcome these issues?

Answer

This is not unusual with any change in a business such as yours.  People do not like change and especially when it seems to be from the “big brother is watching” camp.  My advice would be to sell the many positives that driver management brings about.  Most people are familiar with the requirements to carry out a risk assessment for the work they do but never appreciate that driving is a work-related task and should be risk assessed and managed.  FSGB have a number of case studies from organisations that have implement driver management which provide many good examples of reductions in accident frequency rate, better efficiency, and significant cost savings as well as improvements to driver wellbeing. My recommendation would be to use the relevant sections from these case studies in your business to demonstrate that managing drivers is not big brother, but a system that both the company and the drivers will benefit from.
